The Opening of the New Singleton Village Pump!
The ceremony went very well and they could not have asked for a
better day! The photograph (which you can click for it's full size
version) depicts (left to right) Harry Elliott, Bill Spence (who has
spent many hours helping him) and Jenny Martin. She and Bill Spence
ended up opening the pump together! The first water was pumped and Bill
gave a short speech and thanked Harry Elliott who has spent so long,
with exceptional skill, to make all the pieces and put it back into
working order. He is a volunteer from Amberley Chalkpits Museum, where
the new cap was cast.

Affordable Housing in West Dean - thank you to those who commented on
the draft proposals. These comments have been passed on to Hastoe
Housing Association for their information at this early stage.
The Parish Council is now at full strength of nine councillors, namely
Dick Hill - Chairman
Sid Hitchman
John Ruffell
Ian Odin - Vice Chairman
Richard Brook
Chris Kelly
Steve Corbette (to be co-opted)
Kathy Slade
David Kendall
Future council meetings
will be held at West Dean College, the next one is 26th September 2007.
Annual Meeting 2007
At the Annual Meeting on
9th May 2007 the councillors resolved to adopt with immediate effect a
replacement Code of Conduct which sets out the conduct which is expected
of Councillors and Co-oped members of the Council. Members have
completed registers of their financial and other interests as required
by the Code of Conduct. These, together with the Code of Conduct, can be
inspected by the public during July at 132 West Dean by appointment
(ring 01243 811344).
Other items on the Agenda included the election of Richard Hill as
Chairman for the coming year and the approval of the accounts for the
past year. These accounts for the year ended 31st March 2007 will be
available for inspection during July at 132 West Dean by appointment.
West Sussex County Council had advised they are considering a new
maintenance contract for street lights which would replace faulty lamp
standards at no cost to the Parish. This would be at an extra annual
cost of approximately £8 per standard.
No objections were raised regarding planning applications for SSE
Telecom to install 2 no. antennae and 1 dish on the existing pylon at
Hat Hill, and Edward James Foundation to add a two storey extension at
125 Hylters Lane.
